FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JEFF BUCK CHOSEN AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SANCTUARY IN THE ORDINARY
Replaces Founding Director Jim Roos
ST. LOUIS, MO (July 3, 2022) – The Board of Sanctuary In the Ordinary, SITO, announced today that Jeff Buck, 56, has been chosen as their new Executive Director effective immediately. While Buck is a relative newcomer to St. Louis, having moved to St. Louis in 2019 after working in Munich Germany for four years, the Board unanimously feels that his passion for the mission of SITO and his skills in communication and organization will quickly overcome any shortcoming of not being historically connected to the city. Regarding Buck’s hiring, SITO’s Founding Director, Jim Roos, said “for years I looked and longed for a key person to lead and continue the low-income housing ministry I began in 1971. Through a fortunate coincidence Jeff and I became connected and we quickly bonded over our shared concern for those we serve. I am thrilled to be handing over the reigns of SITO to Jeff.” Anthony D’Agostino, CEO of St Patrick Center and SITO Board member, stated “We are fortunate to find someone of Jeff’s caliber to lead SITO into its next chapter.”
Buck enjoyed a wide-ranging and successful corporate career, first as an engineer developing anti-lock brake systems at GM then progressing through various sales and engineering leadership positions at global companies. Buck’s corporate career culminated as the President of EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Operations and then Global President of Sales and Engineering for St. Louis-based Electrical Components International, Inc. While managing his career and raising two daughters with his wife, Greta, Buck has been regularly involved in various church ministries and non-profit organizations. Buck has decided to step out of the corporate world and dedicate his time to leading SITO’s efforts to address the significant need for fair and equitable affordable rental housing in the city of St. Louis. “For many years I have thought that when I retired I would dedicate myself to a compassionate ministry effort and it seems like the right time to do this is now” says Buck of his decision to join SITO. “Jim Roos established a wonderful organization, and I am excited and humbled to have the opportunity to learn from him and to lead the organization going forward.”
As executive director, Buck will work closely with the Board of Directors to execute SITO’s business plan and work toward identifying new opportunities that will lay the foundation for the continued success of SITO. Buck will succeed Jim Roos who will, over time, step out of the day-to-day activities of SITO but will remain on the Board of Directors.
About Sanctuary In the Ordinary
Sanctuary In the Ordinary (www.SITOHousing.org) is a nonprofit organization that takes a novel approach to create affordable housing units more effectively. SITO partners with public and private entities to fund selective rehab projects—identifying buildings that, through selective-but-adequate rehab, can provide a sanctuary in the ordinary for low-income families and individuals. SITO's mission is to cost-effectively rescue distressed buildings, provide affordable housing to low-income people, and strengthen communities in the St. Louis metro area. SITO seeks to meet the housing needs of the city's current residents, where they are, and to conserve sound housing, where it exists.
